“It all started the August before college…”
Every August, incoming students to the University of Texas make the decision to follow Jesus in a way they never have before. This Christmas season, the Ignite Texas Alumni Association want to make that decision easier for next year’s campers.
“I was a Christian before, but I really started following jesus at Ignite…”
This statement and ones like it are miraculously common among campers who have attended Ignite Texas before their freshmen year. But fewer and fewer students are experiencing camp than in years prior. Barriers which were not previously in place are now hindering students from starting their college careers through Ignite.
“I would’ve gone to Ignite if I had known about it…”
There are reasonable excuses students may not attend Ignite as campers. We’re working to get the word out to each group of incoming freshmen and transfer students. But there is one reason that should never keep anyone from participating in an experience that has proven to be life changing.
“When did Ignite get so expensive?”
Ten years ago in 2014, Ignite cost $150 for a student to attend. In 2021, that had risen to $200. By 2023, cost ballooned to $285. This year, 2024, projections put the cost of camp at $300. Everyone has felt the effects of inflation in the past year, including this ministry. This is adversely affecting college students, a group known culturally for accepting any and all charity that could be given to them. This group is on the hook for higher tuition, more expensive food and housing options and anything else that could possibly rise in price. Does Ignite have to participate in this trend?
The Ignite Texas Alumni Association is trying to raise money to combat the rising cost of Ignite in order to not only limit the inflation of cost handed down to campers, but to instead reverse course on this trend, sending our cost down so that students of every background can participate in Ignite without so much as a single worry about what it might cost them financially.
